Well here we are in Versailles... and so is everyone else in Europe I think! What a crowd. We had a lovely breakfast at the hotel and were picked up in a nice van for our tour before 9am - the ride took about 25 minutes, but when we got there the place was jammed with lots of people everywhere you turned. The Town (or City) of Versailles looked very nice from the van and I think I might enjoy exploring that area as it had some beautiful mature trees and lovely old buildings not as grand as Champs-Elysees, but definitely French looking with shutters and pretty flowers, etc. It was most uncomfortable viewing the Palace because of the huge number of people (ignorant europeans) pushing and shoving and hardly any room to walk. Announcements came over the PA system to watch out for pick pockets as they work well in that environment where everyone is touching you and there's no room for personal space - I didn't enjoy that part of the morning at all. The Palace is magnificent for sure, perhaps a day other than a Sunday might have been a better choice for the tour, but I somehow doubt it - I think all of the big tourist attractions are like this nowadays, people, people everywhere and no personal space whatsoever. The bottom middle picture of the room with the Chandeliers shows what the place was like (filled with people) as we toured the various rooms! It was a great experience for sure, but I wouldn't be rushing back to do it again. Arrived back at the hotel in time for..... you guessed it some FOS at our favourite restaurant and we even had some wine this time, perfect. Off now for an afternoon nap and a Blog catch up before our big evening at the Lido tonight.
Met Mary downstairs at 6:40 to catch the cab to the famous Lido on the Champs-Elysees, dinner, show, champagne............our last night in Paris, so we'll be celebrating appropriately. Can't believe we'll be saying goodbye to Mary tomorrow as she heads home for work and we to London for the last leg of our fantastic holiday! Hard to believe we'll be home this time next week... but it'll be nice to get into our own bed again.
12:30 am and we're just getting home, what a spectacular show. We had great seats and enjoyed our wine and dinner. The show had some fabulous costumes, a horse on stage and wonderful sets - actually so much going on at one time it was hard to take it all in. Photography isn't allowed during the performance of course, so you'll all have to make a point of coming here to see it yourselves. Although we tried, we just couldn't get a cab home so had to hoof it in the rain... Ron was starting to sing the old favourite 'Singing in the Rain' but since Mary and I refused to join in that went quickly by the wayside. Our hotel is only about four blocks from the theatre, so we made it back in about 10 minutes - looking like drowed rats mind you, but glad to be home safe and sound and with a song in our hearts. The show was really fantastic and a fitting end to our Paris adventure. Meeting tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. and have the cab ordered for 11:15 to take us and all the bags to the train station for the Eurostar back to London :(
