Thursday, 19th August 2010 – Dingle Peninsula, Ireland

Gemma’s birthday dawned cold, rainy and blustery – and that was before we even left our wee house! We decided to drive out to the end of the Dingle Peninsula to try and get the ferry to Blasket Island. Along the way we spotted some really weird cows – black with a wide white belt around them. Apparently they are Belted Galloway cattle and originated in Scotland. In the US these cows are often called "police car cows,""panda cows" or "Oreo cows" – took a couple of pictures for you to see.

When we arrived at the ferry dock (so to speak) the last one for the day had departed. We decided we would try again tomorrow. We then drove in the rain to try and find the An Bothar pub that had been recommended to us. What an adventure that turned into, there are so many little back roads and we drove every one of them before we finally found it! We had a pint and glass of wine there before heading back to Dingle and our cosy little cottage and an early night with a warm drink!
